Dragged kickin’ and screamin’ …

…into the 90’s, or whenever cell phones became common-place.

After many years of procrastination, I finally have a cell phone. We’ve had a cell for about a dozen years, but I have only carried it around occasionally, under duress mostly. Brenda has always had the cell in the family. For the last year or so, Brenda’s had an iPhone – undeniably cool, but better yet, it has great features. Internet browsing, google maps, an MP3 player, calendar, email, lots of great applications plus all the cell phone bells and whistles.

During the run up to Christmas last year, there were a bunch of days where life would have been a lot easier if I’d had a cell. So we chatted about it and decide to pick up a second iPhone for me.

… and here I am blogging from it!

The Good Ol’ Hockey Game

My work place has season’s tickets for the Calgary Flames and has a draw for the seats amongst the employees. I was lucky enough to win the tickets for tonight’s Flames exhibition game against the NY Islanders. Despite the score being tied at 3 near the end of the second period, the players seem to have lost interest in the game and have started a dance. It’s pretty tough to tell who is leading…

p.s. The Flames eventually won 5-4 in and overtime shootout.

Riding and Chai

It is a beautiful morning, so Brenda and I got up early and hit the road on our motorbikes before the day got busy. We’ve stopped for lattes in Langdon. Of course, chai latte is the official beverage of the motorcycle road trip, but I suppose that new riders need to work up to that lofty height of consumption. Brenda is drinking a regular latte with soy – it’s beyond the pale…

Capernwray Harbour

We are more than halfway through our week here on Thetis Island, it is going by very quickly. The days are very full with activities for everyone in the family, the meals are great and the weather has been fine.
The kids have bee enjoying their group activities, both Steven and Mark are in the same group, so it has been neat to see them looking out for one another as they go through some of the team building challenges. Alyssa’s group is small, just 5 kids, and all girls – they are having great fun doing crafts and exploring the beach.
Brenda and I are enjoying the speakers, but the highlight of the week so far was last night’s gourmet 7 course meal. It was for the adults only lasting from 5:00 to 8:30 pm while the kids were fed and overseen by the staff. It was a great evening enjoyed as much by the kids as by us.
Today, we went as a family on a boat trip (a 3 hour tour!!) around the north end of Thetis and over to Valdes to drift along the cliffs. It was a pretty cool way to spend the afternoon.

Tomorrow we have a 6:00 am start to go fishing and kayaking.
