Amsterdam

image

We did not have a long time in Amsterdam. Less than 24 hours. Turns out that was not too much a bad thing as we didn’t have to pay too much for parking. At 36 euros per 24 hour period it wouldn’t take long to pay for the price of the car!
Something the kids have noticed about Europe is all the spiral staircases. Amsterdam was no exception. Alyssa was extremely disappointed that the set in this church had bars on it preventing her from climbing all the way up.

Spring in Banff

Finally, I spotted the first robin of the year! Spring must be here. So, where’s the best place to celebrate such a momentus occasion? Why Banff of course! To prove it here is what our car registered at the outdoor temperature on the road to Banff.

Christmas Eve 2013

image Ah! The night before Christmas when all through the house, tinsel and stockings and festive decor transform every day living spaces into holiday joy. Ornaments from friends and family, each with their own special memories – from gold glitter kangaroos to three pewter frames each filled with an angelic baby face.

Presents too can be found under the tree and delivered to the door. Including a bouquet all red and white with yummy striped candy canes tucked away tight. The Nativity with tiny figures of shepherds, wise men and a tiny babe in place, quietly reminding us what took place so long ago in a far away place.

Let’s not forget the cards from across the country and the world with well wishes for all to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We echo this too, and extend to you all our warmest of thoughts – “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Badland

No this isn’t a post about a family excursion to the badlands of Drumheller, but it is about family members doing bad things.

Dave and I were on our way out to go for dinner and I had made supper for the kids. I put all my culinary skills, finely honed in university, into action.  I opened a couple of cans of Alphaghetti – a delightful two food-group meal for the mewing maws of the hordes.

They obviously were impressed with the meal as a raucous game of sponge ball ensued with one of the orbs of torment bouncing off of Alyssa’s head and into her steaming bowl of delicious noodles and rouge sauce.

You can imagine the mess! Before I could scold the miscreants for their misdeed, the food had a mind of its own and boldly in red and white showed them the error of their ways.

I guess you really are what you eat no matter what land you are in.
