Bucket List?

My brother-in-law, Ronny asked me if sleeping in a teepee was on my bucket list. I had to say that it wasn’t. Now that I’ve survived a night in a teepee (it was damp, but not raining fortunately and down to about 5C). In fact we all survived and, having done so, I guess we can brag about it.
We were all very ready for a giant pancake, bacon and sausage breakfast once we came to. Now we are off to check out some of the activities at the RMH historic site.

Cousin’s Birthday Bash

The annual summer birthday bash for all of the cousins on Brenda’s side of the family is today. We are at the Rocky Mountain House Historic Site and will be camping in a teepee tonight.

The kids have had their gift exchange and we are sitting around the fire enjoying the quiet and watching the North Saskatchewan rolling by. Tonight we are having some kind of traditional Metis dinner.

Hopefully it’s not too chilly tonight!

Water Rockets

The kids each made water rockets out of 2L pop bottles as craft projects at Caperwray this week. We spent the hour after lunch constructing, painting and decorating the rockets each of the last three days. After supper this evening, it was time to launch the creations to see whose rocket could fly the furthest.
The launchers were a clever friction-fit arrangement that twisted into the base of the rocket. The rockets were pressurized using a heavy-duty bicycle pump. Surprisingly, the rockets would pressurize to over 140 psi before overcoming the friction of the launch tube.
Once they let loose they would really fly – Alyssa’s rocket was in the first launch and landed a good 400 m down range! Mark’s went almost as far, but Steven’s bottle had a flaw and blew apart on the launch pad.
Alyssa made the finals and her second shot went almost as far – she won $3.00 to spend at the Pump House (the little tuck shop) on candy. She was pretty pleased.
All the piccies are on the camera, once I get a chance to up load them to the iPad, I’ll add them to this post.

Thetis Island

We have stopped driving around, finally. We got to Capernwray yesterday in time for dinner and after getting settled, we all crashed and slept a solid 9 hours – just about missed breakfast!

Today wasn’t quite as relaxing as it could have been. After lunch I had an hour long job interview over the phone. I think that it went OK, but it is hard to tell. I’m hoping to hear back as soon as tomorrow. It needed to be done, but did cut into swimming time with the kids.
This evening, all the kids have their own activities and Brenda I and have taken a walk down to the local marina. It’s very picturesque and the evening. It’s sunny and warm. It’s starting to feel like a vacation now.
