Packing Up for Home

image

It’s definitely easier to deal with packing the suitcases on the last day of vacation when it’s raining out! The weather here in Cancun / Playa del Carmen has been very nice up until Friday afternoon when a late day storm blew us off the beach, maybe 40 minutes before we would have left to get ready for dinner.
Yesterday, though, was overcast and lots of rain in the morning so we grabbed a window table in the restaurant beside the pool and just hung out together. By early afternoon, the rain stopped but it stayed overcast and blustery. But, warm. Warm enough to walk down the beach in our swim suits, wading in the surf. I’d say we walked about 5km. I did a little body surfing and we had a dip in the pool when we got back to our resort. Turned out to be a great day.
And now that we are all packed with 3 hours til check out time, the sun has reappeared and we are off to the beach.

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!

A very merry Christmas to you all! We trust that you are enjoying the holiday surrounded by family and friends, good food and all the hope that Christmas brings to mind.

2013 is nearly gone, and so quickly it seems. This was a milestone year for Brenda and I, with our 25th wedding anniversary in August. We marked the day in a bit of a low key fashion but the anniversary has shaped different aspects of the year. In particular, our summer holiday to Ontario took us back to St. Catharines where we were married and, in just a few days, it will take Brenda and I to Mexico.  We are taking a week to hit the beaches in Cancun for just the two of us as a way of celebrating 25 years together.  The kids will be staying with their cousins in Caroline for the week – thanks Barry and Breana!

Christmas Eve 2013

image Ah! The night before Christmas when all through the house, tinsel and stockings and festive decor transform every day living spaces into holiday joy. Ornaments from friends and family, each with their own special memories – from gold glitter kangaroos to three pewter frames each filled with an angelic baby face.

Presents too can be found under the tree and delivered to the door. Including a bouquet all red and white with yummy striped candy canes tucked away tight. The Nativity with tiny figures of shepherds, wise men and a tiny babe in place, quietly reminding us what took place so long ago in a far away place.

Let’s not forget the cards from across the country and the world with well wishes for all to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We echo this too, and extend to you all our warmest of thoughts – “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Boo!

image

The kids love the Boo!  Jack-o-lantern. It is a staple every year at our house on Halloween. This is how last year’s version of the Jack-o-lantern looked.

For extra value, last year we had a second pumpkin and I stuck a kerosene soaked roll of toilet paper inside and set it alight – that was some fiery goodness.

Not to be outdone by a gourd, Brenda put on her bright orange fright wig and matching scary eyelashes:

Nice night, though, +8°C with at bit of wind at 7:00pm. The snow we got last weekend has melted away and it’s a nicer evening than last year’s Halloween.
