Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!

A very merry Christmas to you all! We trust that you are enjoying the holiday surrounded by family and friends, good food and all the hope that Christmas brings to mind.

2013 is nearly gone, and so quickly it seems. This was a milestone year for Brenda and I, with our 25th wedding anniversary in August. We marked the day in a bit of a low key fashion but the anniversary has shaped different aspects of the year. In particular, our summer holiday to Ontario took us back to St. Catharines where we were married and, in just a few days, it will take Brenda and I to Mexico.  We are taking a week to hit the beaches in Cancun for just the two of us as a way of celebrating 25 years together.  The kids will be staying with their cousins in Caroline for the week – thanks Barry and Breana!

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!

Christmas Eve! Fresh snow has fallen, it is crisp and cold outside, but cozy and warm in the house. The fire is burning, the tree lit and the kids are playing together. Of course, there are myriad things to be done – the normal chores and routines of life; but on Christmas Eve it is nice to put all that aside, to relax with a good book and a coffee and to be content to have a bit of time to reflect on the year almost gone and the next one ahead. We have had quite the year, the highs and the lows always run with each other, don’t they? We have had job changes and health concerns, fine holidays and good family times, car troubles and amazing adventures.

The days fly by ever faster and I always enjoy being able to take a bit of time to reflect on the year rushing to a close. Browsing through the year’s  photos and blog posts, recalling the good days and the times that were more challenging, it is easy to see how blessed we are. Continue Reading »

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!

Another Christmas season has arrived – each year it seems to sneak up a little more quickly than the last! We would like to wish each of you the best this Christmas season and hope that 2012 is a great year for you and your families. This year we returned to a more traditional Christmas – no trip to Mexico or other tropical destination for us. However, the +9 °C temperature on Christmas Day and the extremely mild weather during the last few weeks has been very nice.

2011 was another full-on adventure of a year with more job changes, visitors from overseas, family gatherings and the “regular” routines of school and home. The kids are growing as always and Steven is now taller than Brenda and will soon best me as well. He is 14 now and talking of getting his learner’s license after the winter.  Steven’s interests run strongly towards computers and, apart from the games, he is beginning to understand how to troubleshoot problems like when his PC video card failed a month or so ago. Steven worked his first paying job over the summer as the gift shop and admissions clerk at the Aero Space Museum for one day each week during his summer vacation. He now has some real savings and a bank account and debit card of his own. It was a good experience for him and taught him a few things about dealing with the public.

Feliz Navidad!!

Feliz Navidad!!

Yep, we made a break for sunnier climes this Christmas – we took the whole family to Manzanillo, Mexico for a warm weather Christmas. Even so, as we sat on the beach and watched the kids play in the sand and the surf, our thoughts turned to our family and friends. We’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best in the coming New Year. As we heard it in Mexico:

Feliz Navidad y próspero Año Nuevo
