Didja Miss Us?

Didja even notice? No, don’t answer that. The blog was off the air for over two weeks due to some kind of oddball failure related to VMWare. This blog is hosted on a virtual machine on a VMWare ESXi host and a VMTools update some how broke the webserver’s ability to do host name resolution. I built a dedicated DNS server to try remedy the situation but that didn’t work. Eventually I just had to rebuild from scratch, thankfully I had good backups from the same day as the failure occurred.
It’s good to be back.

Dragged kickin’ and screamin’ …

…into the 90’s, or whenever cell phones became common-place.

After many years of procrastination, I finally have a cell phone. We’ve had a cell for about a dozen years, but I have only carried it around occasionally, under duress mostly. Brenda has always had the cell in the family. For the last year or so, Brenda’s had an iPhone – undeniably cool, but better yet, it has great features. Internet browsing, google maps, an MP3 player, calendar, email, lots of great applications plus all the cell phone bells and whistles.

During the run up to Christmas last year, there were a bunch of days where life would have been a lot easier if I’d had a cell. So we chatted about it and decide to pick up a second iPhone for me.

… and here I am blogging from it!

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!

As the kids begin to count the hours left until Christmas Day, rather than the days, we’d like to just take a moment to reflect on the year quickly passing and take the time to wish all of our friends and family, near and far, a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

As seems always to be the case, 2009 has slipped by in a greater rush than I thought possible. The past 12 months were good to our family as we were able to spend time together learning and playing, working and traveling, resting and adventuring. Alyssa is old enough to keep up with the pace of our activities and Steven is not yet old enough to think that doing things with the whole family is lame. This means that we’ve been able to have some really great family times together ranging from simple games nights at home to family swims on Friday’s after school to our “full strength” holidays to BC and California.
